World Maritime Day (WMD)

All mariners and other interested parties are hereby informed that anchoring and bunkering are not allowed on California Banks, Mackerel Banks, and all other outlying banks off the Jamaican Coast. Outlying Banks refer to: Kingston Bank, Sunbury Bank, Walton Bank, Blossom Bank, and New Bank.

The reporting of Maritime Incidents/accidents affords the MAJ opportunities to conduct investigations into these incidents, with a view to arrive at causes and possibly implementation of preventative measures to mitigate against such incidents in the future.

In addition, to the Medical Practitioners listed above, the Maritime Authority of Jamaica will accept the medical report from Doctors listed on the MCA List of Approved Medical Practitioners. The MCA list of approved medical practitioners can be obtained from the MCAs’ website.

To mitigate fraud and to improve the overall standard of the product and service offering to the Maritime Community, effective 1st July 2022, the Maritime Authority of Jamaica (MAJ) will commence issuing the Certificate of Competency - COXSWAIN (Coxswain License) and Certificate of Competency - MASTER COASTING TRADE in a NEW format.

The Shipping (Local Trade Regulations) 2003 promulgated under section 15 of the Shipping Act 1998, sets out the conditions under which foreign ships may engage in local trade in Jamaica waters.
