The Maritime Authority of Jamaica wish to inform that in accordance with paragraph 2 of Regulation V/III/1 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 (STCW78) as amended¹, for the purpose of preventing drug and alcohol abuse on board Jamaica flagged vessels.

Maritime cyber risk refers to a measure of the extent to which a technology asset could be threatened by a potential circumstance or event, which may result in shipping-related operational, safety or security failures as a consequence of information or systems being corrupted, lost or compromised.

The requirements of MARPOL Annex VI / Regulation 22A, “Collection and reporting of ship fuel consumption data” (the IMO - DCS Regulation) as well as to inform you about the deadlines for the submission of emission data and the issuance of the Statement of Compliance, as well as for the requirements in case of change of flag/company. 

Under the tacit acceptance procedure, of the Amendments of 2018 to the Code of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 which were approved by the 107th Session of the International Labour Conference, in accordance with Article XV of the Convention which sets out the simplified amendment procedure adopted in respect of the Convention. The amendments will enter into force on 26 December 2020. The full text of the amendments is hereby attached.

The reporting of Maritime Incidents/accidents affords the MAJ opportunities to conduct investigations into these incidents, with a view to arrive at causes and possibly implementation of preventative measures to mitigate against such incidents in the future.
